Safe Haven Inspired Nails

Every time I look at my nail polish racks as I'm deciding what color to paint my nails, I always stop at all of my yellows. Every single time I think of Safe Haven. It's one of my all-time favorite books, and I fell in love with the movie. One of my favorite parts is when she's asking what color to paint her kitchen floor. Not only is it so cute, but the little girl reacted just in the way my mom reacted whenever I would paint my nails yellow.

My mom once told me that people would think of it as being weird because you usually associate yellow on the nails as being some sort of fungi. But as I got older, I began to think--WHO CARES!?

And now every time I see any shade of yellow nail polish I will always associate it with Safe Haven because it's a "happy" color.. This week has been a downer for me in so many ways, so hopefully yellow nails can remind me to be happy.

My yellow of choice--"Mellow Yellow" by Sally Hansen.

What are your thoughts about yellow nail polish?

The Autumn Tag

1. Favorite thing about Autumn?
The weather! I'm one of those people that would rather put more clothes on than take clothes off. I hate being hot--I sweat way too much! I love wearing jeans, sweatshirts, and boots. I love sleeping with the windows open. I'm just so happier when the weather gets cooler!

2. Favorite drink?
I wouldn't say that I have a favorite that I only drink during fall...I don't drink coffee or tea or cider. HOWEVER, when the weather gets colder, I do set up my small coffee maker to make hot chocolate! And no I DO NOT add the mix in the coffee maker (that would ruin your coffee maker). I only use the coffee maker to heat the water--it comes out the perfect temperature!

3. Favorite scent/candle?
What scents don't you love!? Is it even possible to choose!? I am currently loving Bath & Body Works White Barn No. 1 Nutmeg & Spice candle...YUM! I don't think you can buy it in store anymore...but any fall candle from Bath & Body Works is just delicious!

4. Best lipstick?
I absolutely love wearing the Revlon Balm Stain in Smitten. It is so pretty on it's own, but I love layering Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 865 Fuchsia Flash  from the Vivids collection on top!

5. Go to moisturizer?
Face--Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Control Moisturizer
Body--Mary Kay Hydrating Lotion or Bath & Body Works Triple Moisture Body Creams
Hair--Coconut Oil or One 'n Only Argan Oil Hydrating Mask

6. Go to colors for the eyes?
I love simple looks on the eyes for fall. One color looks using greys, taupes, and browns. I also love adding a little cranberry to blend out the crease. You can check out some of my previous fall eye make up looks HERE and HERE.

7. Favorite music or band/singer to listen to?
I love anything really...I love music!

8. Favorite outfit to wear?
Like I said in a previous question, I'm a jeans and sweatshirt kind of girl. I love wearing Columbia fleece and scarves and boots. I love layering. I have a pretty plain style, but I'm completely fine with that!

9. Autumn treat?
I love my mom's pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting. They are always a favorite.

10. Favorite place to be?
The boy and I love visiting our favorite lookouts. I recently did a post about them you can find them HERE. They are especially breathtaking when the leaves are changing colors. In the back yard around the fire pit is another favorite place!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my favorite things about autumn! If you want to do this tag, please do! Don't forget to come back and leave your links in the comments so I can see!

Monday, September 23

While doing some "Fall Cleaning", I discovered an old notebook that I used to write down ideas for the blog. One that really caught my eye was "MUST-HAVE Mondays". The idea was to feature one beauty product that was a Must-Have for me. So here it is--my first Must-Have Monday featuring coconut oil!

You most likely have heard of coconut oil. It is one of those products that has a thousand and one uses and is always plastered all over Pinterest. Seeing 50 different pins from sites showing the different uses got me thinking--can it really be that good? After all, who doesn't want a product with so many different uses.

What really intrigued me to buy coconut oil was its claims as an amazing moisturizer. The texture of coconut oil is so odd. It starts out like a solid, but then melts to a liquid oil form when it comes in contact with your body heat.

The first thing I wanted to try using coconut oil on was my hair as a deep conditioner. I, of course, shampooed and rinsed my hair very well. I tried to apply the coconut oil while it was still in it's solid form, and that didn't work very well. I don't even know what I was thinking--obviously your hair doesn't give off body heat! HAHA After my shower my hair detangled easily, and the scent lingered for hours. The most obvious way that I can tell if my hair is strong and healthy or not is how long it stays curled. My hair would fall flat just as it would when I was a much younger and didn't have damage coloring. That being said, I wouldn't recommend using coconut oil in your hair right before you're going to curl your hair.

After a couple weeks of using it on my face and body as moisturizers, I've come to a conclusion--IT'S A MUST HAVE! Not only does it work amazing as a moisturizer, it smells amazing and super inexpensive, too! I would recommend picking up a tub and trying it out for yourself. Coconut oil has so many different uses besides being very moisturizing. It's also claimed to be very healthy to eat!

Have you used coconut oil? What are your favorite uses? Is this one of your beauty must haves!?

Happy first day of FALL!

I love this time of year, and this week has been pretty great!

It's seems like yesterday we were planting, but the guys finally finished chopping at the beginning of the week.

I couldn't help but have a moment in the middle of the hay field as I was snapping photos of the guys chopping...'Why would anyone want to give up living in the country?'

After 40 days, it finally rained and broke our dry streak!

I can't forget to include the photos I captured midweek of the "Harvest Moon"...absolutely gorgeous!

Hope you guys have a fabulous week ahead!

REVIEW: Mary Kay Hydrating Lotion

I'm obsessed with lotion. I have bottles upon bottles. The only lotion that I've been grabbing for lately is this hidden gem--Mary Kay Hydrating Lotion. When I say hidden gem, I mean that literally. I received this in a set for Christmas and remember putting on the back of one of my storage shelves. At the time I had almost 10 bottles of lotion in rotation, and I didn't need anymore. It wasn't until earlier this summer when I rediscovered it while cleaning out my shelves.

It's one of those clean smelling lotions that you could layer any perfume on top. It's a scent that's perfect for all year round.

It claims to be the a "Hydrating Lotion", and it is! I absolutely LOVE the moisture it gives off. I can put it on one day, and wake up the next day still feeling the moisture(in a good way). It sinks into my skin quickly, and I absolutely LOVE how it makes my skin look glowing and dewy. I think I love it just as much as I love the Triple Body Moisture Creams from Bath & Body Works.

Even though I have nearly 20 bottles of lotions and body creams, this definitely one of my favorite. I will be repurchasing when this bottle is close to being finished.

Let me know what your thoughts and opinions are--have you tried this before? Do you have any favorite 'clean' smelling lotions?
